The front inside cover has a tiny tear on the top edge of its paper; the back inside cover has a tiny tear on the side of its paper. The inside pages have yellowed, especially on their outer edges. The sides of the pages have deckle edging; the top of these side edges have some blue-green smudges. The binding creaks a bit with age as one flips through the pages, but is in otherwise good condition.

Previously read hardcover in good condition. Cover shows signs of very slight fading and signs of more noticeable fading on the spine on the title and publisher. The cover is otherwise in very good condition. Pages have been slightly discolored and dulled, especially around the bottom and side edges. The two outer pages are more noticeably discolored. The top page edges are gold in color. The black edged pages contain photographs. The outermost pages are beginning to loosen from the binding. The last page is completely loose from the binding but the is still attached to the back cover. The very first page has a name written in black pen in the center. Attached to the book is a red ribbon bookmark which has noticeable creasing and a slightly frayed bottom.

The edges and corner of the cover have minor shelf wear. The inside covers and free end papers have yellowed a bit; they have some foxing on their top borders and near the binding. The inside pages have yellowed. The top outer page edges have faded from their original color and have some scratches on them. The binding has a split between pages 4 and 5 and pages 132 and 133. The front free end paper has extensive notes on the top; on its bottom edge is a stamp for an information center with a discard stamp over it. There are notes and underlines in ink throughout the book.

The top outer page edges have a couple of beige and black spots. The pages are tight to the binding. The front end paper has a price in pencil on top.

Previously read hardcover in poor condition. A year was not specified in the copyright page, but the "Note to the Second Edition" ends with the year of 1952. The cover has a somewhat dull color and has yellowed on its very edges. The bottom and top ends of the spine have creased, in addition to having yellowed. The inside covers have yellowed slightly and are brighter in color near their binding. The back inside cover has had small chunks of its paper's top layer peeled off near its top right corner. The front inside cover also has a peel on its top right corner, but this peel is much smaller. The pages have yellowed moderately. The top outer page edges have faded from their original blue color. The binding is still fairly tight. The back free end paper has a large tear on its inner bottom corner and some of the preceding pages have smaller tears in this same area; these tears are the reason for the book's "poor condition" assessment. There is righting in blue and then purple ink on the top edge of the front free end paper. A couple of the very front pages have a paper clip imprint on the center of their top edge.
